Differentiate between oil in water and water in oil emulsions.

Dye Test:

To the emulsion add water soluble dye. If the droplets become coloured the emulsion is oil in water type and if the medium becomes coloured the emulsion is water in oil type.

Dilution Test:

To the emulsion add a few drops of oil. If the oil forms a separate layer, the emulsion is oil in water type, otherwise it is water in oil type.
